WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY (WHPL)

June 16 @ 8:00 am - June 21 @ 5:00 pm

The library will host a compelling and interactive author talk with Dr. Mardelle McCuskey Shepley, emerita professor of Human Centered Design at Cornell University, on Monday, June 16, at 3 p.m. In her talk, entitled “The Art and Science of Creating Peace,” Dr. Shepley will explore the dynamic relationship between art and science in the pursuit of peace and human well-being. For her talk, Dr. Shepley will invite questions and engagement from attendees of all backgrounds. Whether you’re a scientist, an artist, a designer, or simply a curious community member, this talk offers a unique opportunity to consider how the environments we shape—and live in—can support healing, mental health, and social equity. The library invites neighbors, friends, and food lovers to gather for an afternoon of delicious bites and warm conversation at “Canapés with the Community,” an appetizer-sharing social event designed to bring people together. Join us on Saturday, June 21, from 3pm-4pm in the Library courtyard, for a relaxed, come-as-you-are event filled with flavor, friendship, and community spirit. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite appetizer or finger food to share, whether homemade or store-bought — sweet or savory, simple or gourmet — all tastes are welcome! This free event celebrates the library’s role as a community hub, where neighbors can meet, share stories, and enjoy a shared experience. No registration required — just your appetite and a willingness to connect. If you are in need of recipe inspiration, the library has a vast selection of wonderful cookbooks to choose from. Let’s share a bite — and build community — together!
