Ben Barr, Postdoctoral Investigator, joins WHOI’s PO Department. Ben earned his PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington. Ben’s research interests are air-sea interaction, physics and fluxes at the high-wind air-sea interface including wave breaking, sea spray, and upper ocean processes; parameterization development; and coupled atmosphere-wave-ocean modeling of high-impact weather. He is working with Hyodae Seo, Carol Anne Clayson and Jim Edson, focusing primarily on development of the coupled atmosphere-wave-ocean SCOAR regional model and scientific study of air-sea interaction in extratropical cyclones over the North Atlantic Ocean. Ben is a proud husband to Michelle Barr and father to Juniper (3) and Ellis (1). He also enjoys hiking, frisbee, playing guitar, watching post-apocalyptic zombie horror TV and movies, and designing board games.
