Images: Up in the Sky!

WHOI scientist Matt Charette points to a thermal-imaging drone operated by WHOI postdoctoral scholar Erika Johnson as Michael Scherer of the Coonamessett River Trust looks on. The research will help the trust's efforts to restore the river and the sea-run brook trout that used to flourish in it. (Merrily Cassidy, Cape Cod Times)
Scientists used a drone equipped with a thermal imaging sensor, which reveals “hot spots” where groundwater seeps into the Coonamessett River.  (Merrily Cassidy, Cape Cod Times)
A thermal image of a section of the river watershed reveals red and yellow areas where warmer groundwater is seeping into the colder river in winter. (Aerial view and thermal image by Erika Johnson, WHOI)
