The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death September 29, 2000 of Susan A. Tarbell of the Physical Oceanography Department. Susan died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was 57.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death September 7, 2000 of former Corporation Member Norman E. MacNeil at his home in Woods Hole. He was 74.

The Institution has received word of the death of James E. Coddington of Mashpee, Tuesday, September 19. James worked at the Institution for over 18 years as a security guard from 1975 until his illness in 1993. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death July 28, 2000 of retiree Harry H. Seibert at his home in Sebastian, Florida. He was 81.

Harry Seibert worked in Marine Operations at the Institution from 1951 until his retirement in June 1974, many of those years as Captain of Research Vessel Gosnold.

The Institution has received word of the death of Ruth Dixon Turner of Cambridge on Sunday, April 30, after a long illness. Ruth was a longtime adjunct scientist in the Biology Department. Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the Long Funeral Home, 1979 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death April 3, 2000 of retiree John A. Kostrzewa at the Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Administration Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. He was 93.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death March 27, 2000 of Scientist Emeritus Frank Jewett Mather, III. Frank died at the JML Care Center in Falmouth after a brief illness at age 89.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death February 29, 2000 of retiree William Krucharski of Mississippi, at age 60. William started at WHOI as a lab assistant in 1971 and retired in 1979 as a research assistant in the Mechanics III Division in Ocean Engineering. Further details will be posted as available.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death February 29, 2000 of former employee Linda E. Lucier. Linda died at her brother??A?s home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, after a long battle with cancer. She was 58.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death January 1, 2000 of retiree Thomas H.M. Smart at the JML Care Center in Falmouth after a long illness. He was 77.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death December 31, 1999 of Honorary Member of the Corporation Elliot Richardson. He died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 79.

He died hiking while on vacation with family members in Wyoming. He was 63 years old.

The Institution has learned, with great sorrow, of the death of former employee Curtis Gandy III on July 1, 1999 in California. He was a security guard in Facilities for 10 years in the 1070s and 1980s.

The Institution announces with great sorrow the death of John D. ??A?Jack??A? Donnelly Tuesday June 22, 1999 at his home in Quissett Gardens following a brief illness. He was 69.

The Institution has received word of the death May 7, 1999 of Scientist Emeritus William von Arx at his home in Falmouth. He was 82. Bill joined the WHOI staff in 1945 as a research associate in physical oceanography and was appointed a Senior Scientist in 1967. He was named a Scientist Emeritus in 1979. A Quakerservice in celebration of Bill’s life will be held Thursday, May 13, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bill’s house, at 18 Sippewissett Road. Friends are invited to share remembrances. A potluck reception will follow; parking will be along the street and dress is casual.
