The Institution has received word of the death May 7, 1999 of Scientist Emeritus William von Arx at his home in Falmouth. He was 82. Bill joined the WHOI staff in 1945 as a research associate in physical oceanography and was appointed a Senior Scientist in 1967. He was named a Scientist Emeritus in 1979. A Quakerservice in celebration of Bill’s life will be held Thursday, May 13, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bill’s house, at 18 Sippewissett Road. Friends are invited to share remembrances. A potluck reception will follow; parking will be along the street and dress is casual.
