The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death November 12, 2003, of retiree Samuel T. Simkins at Haborside Healthcare of Falmouth after a brief illness. He was 79. Sam joined the WHOI staff in 1968 as a research assistant in the Geology and Geophysics Department. He transferred to the Ocean Engineering Department in 1971 and to the Physical Oceanography Department in 1976, working with the Buoy Group until he retired in 1988. He then worked at WHOI on a casual basis from 1991 to 1993.

Al began working at the Institution in 1952 as a research assistant for Allyn Vine in ocean engineering. He retired in 1987 but continued on a casual basis as a research specialist until 1997. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death March 22, 2002, of former seaman Thomas F. O’Neil of Hull. He was 77. Tom joined the Institution staff in October 1970 as an able bodied seaman aboard Research Vessel Knorr and left the Institution in November 1980. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to Irish Mossing and Maritime Museum, 43 Cudworth Road, Scituate, MA 02066.
