Many-headed Computer
December 29, 2011Jeff Dusenberry stands in front of Scylla, a high performance computer cluster containing a total of 984 processors that was installed at WHOI in June 2011. Named after the many-headed sea monster in Greek mythology that haunted the strait between Italy and Sicily, Scylla is being used by researchers from all of WHOI’s research departments to perform modelling and analysis of complex ocean processses such as climate change, ocean circulation, and bioinformatics.(Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
