We Can FIXIT

Engineer Brian Hogue works on a McLane Moored Profiler (MMP) in WHOI’s Field Instrumentation and eXperiment Implementation Team (FIXIT) lab. Hogue is one half of a two-man team with fellow engineer Andrew Davies. Their goal is to maintain and provide instrumentation to the oceanographic community. Moored profilers like the MMP, which is licensed by McLane Research Laboratories, Inc., use CTD technology and acoustic current meters to make measurements of ocean properties down to three miles below the surface, sometimes traveling as much as 600 miles during a deployment. Their data reveals how hard-to-detect environmental changes manifest in ocean environments—information that is crucial for understanding global climate change.
