John P. Bizzozero

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death
August 18, 2007 of retiree John P. Bizzozero at his home. He was 90.

John was born and raised in Quincy, graduated from Quincy Vocational
High School, and was employed by the Quincy Shipyard. During World War
II, he served in the Merchant Marines assisting in the safe passage of
supply ships. In 1971 he moved to Falmouth.

John began his career at WHOI in 1963 as third assistant engineer
aboard the R/V Atlantis II.  When  retired in 1989, he was chief
engineer aboard the R/V Atlantis II. His world-wide travels afforded
him the opportunity to experience life from many different
perspectives. He met and worked with many notables including Prince
Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, Japanese Emperor Hirohito, and
Jacques Cousteau.

Besides his wife Barbara, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Moran of Quincy;
a stepdaughter, Robin Slate of Vancouver, WA; a stepson, Gary Lowe of
Falmouth; two brothers, Raymond Bizzozero of Norwell and Arnold
Bizzozero of Marshfield; two sisters, Natalie Roberts of Easton and
Claire Bonasoni of East Longmeadow; 8 grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews. He is the father of the late John Bizzozero, Jr. and
brother of the late Edna Nolan.

Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in
Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth
Center. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at
St. Patrick Church, 511 Main St, Falmouth, followed by burial at
Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers,
donations in his memory may be made to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation
for VNA, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601 or Home for Little Wanderers
Development Department, 271 Huntington Ave, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02115.
