Curtis Gandy III

The Institution has learned, with great sorrow, of the death of former employee Curtis Gandy III on July 1, 1999 in California. He was a security guard in Facilities for 10 years in the 1070s and 1980s.

Curtis lived on Cape Cod for 45 years, the last 26 years in Teaticket. He moved to California last November.

Born September 15, 1913 in New York, Curtis was a sailor, marathon swimmer, sharpshooter, surfer and Golden Glove boxer in his youth. He was a veteran of World War 11 and the Korean War, and was skilled in aeronautical engineering; retiring in 1971 after 25 years in the Air Force.

He was a member. of Mariners Lodge AF & AM in Cotuit and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, He was a member of St. Barnabas Memorial Church in Falmouth.

Curtis was an active leader in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed family camping. He took great pleasure in travel photography. He had a green thumb and grew exotic flowers, and vegetables. A creative chef, he liked to cook for his family and friends.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Dawn Gandy, of Carmel Highlands, CA and Falmouth; and a son, Curtis Gandy IV, of Carmel, CA. His wife, Evelyn Maxine (Maynard), died in 1971.

Burial will be in Punchbowl National Cemetery in Hawaii.
