Clifford J. Hamill

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Clifford J. Hamill on June 13, at Falmouth Hospital.  He was 82.

Clifford was born in New York, and was the son of Thomas and Mary (Doyle) Hamill.  He attended St. Agnes High School in NYC and Columbia University.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, 82nd Airborne Division as a radio operator and parachute instructor.  He was awarded the United Nations Korean Service Medal.

In 1967, Clifford moved his family to Falmouth.  He began his career at WHOI in 1967 as a research associate in Ocean Engineering.  He stayed in that position until 1972.

He was the owner of Hamill Construction Company and Boxberry Hill Farm in Hatchville.  Clifford coached Falmouth Youth Hockey for several years and was an avid sportsman.

In addition to his wife, Gloria (Nicastro), Clifford leaves his sons Michael and his wife Elaine; Mathew and his wife MaryAnn; Mark and his partner Amanda Jacobs; James and his wife Donna; his daughter MaryAnn and her partner Kevin Downs; and 11 grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 20, at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway, East Falmouth.  Burial will immediately follow at VA National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
