Claes Rooth

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death of former employee Claes Rooth on January 17, in Falmouth after a long illness.  He was 83. 

Claes was born February 18, in Finland. He received his M.Sc. in Physics in 1954 at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, and his Ph.D. from the University of Stockholm in 1963.

Claes began working at WHOI in 1960 as a research associate in Meteorology.  In 1967, he became an associate scientist in the Physical Oceanography Department.  He left in 1968 but returned for many summers as a guest investigator in the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Program.
