Through a student's eyes

When I became a member of the community of international scientists and students in Woods Hole, I learned I could thrive in graduate classes and work harder than I thought possible on my own research—and still enjoy the process. Late-night music and campfires on the beach and the strong sense of community here made my experience even better. I now feel prepared to take on graduate school and the challenges of a long-term research project.

Be among the best

WHOI is the world's leading, independent non-profit organization dedicated to ocean research, exploration, and education. Our scientists and engineers push the boundaries of knowledge about the ocean to reveal its impacts on our planet and our lives.

Why Woods Hole?

WHOI stands at the center of a vibrant scientific community in a seaside village on Cape Cod where scientists and students from around the world come to learn, to ask difficult questions, and to look to the ocean for answers.
