Fall 2024: Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Elects New Corporation Members

Woods Hole, Mass. – At Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s (WHOI’s) Fall Joint Meeting of the Board and Corporation today, Institution leaders elected five new Corporation Members.

“I am pleased to welcome and thank our new Corporation Members for being a part of the WHOI Community,” said Peter de Menocal, WHOI President and Director. “WHOI Corporation Members are important ambassadors for both WHOI and ocean science. This growing group of talented business and other leaders is a tremendous asset to our Institution.”

Shelley Tims Anbouba

Shelley Tims Anbouba

Shelley T. Anbouba serves as CEO and Owner of NEAT Method Dallas-Highland Park, a lifestyle brand that focuses on the function of a home from an interior design perspective all while practicing sustainability. Prior to entrepreneurship Shelley received a BFA from Texas Christian University. She had a career in the graphic arts for more than 20 years with Williamson Printing Corporation where she managed the print production and manufacturing department. As a professional in the not-for-profit sector, Shelley most recently served as the Foundation Director for the National Athletic Training Association where funds most notably managed supported CTE research in conjunction with the NFL. She is also a Member of the Board of Directors for Dallas Children's Advocacy Center. Shelley has more than 25 years of philanthropic experience and she has served her community in a variety of positions with numerous non-profits. She enjoys traveling to a beach, attending art shows, and spending time with family. Shelley lives in Dallas and has two bonus children from her late husband Imad and one granddaughter.

Adam de Sola Pool

Adam de Sola Pool

Adam de Sola Pool is an experienced VC and Angel investor, mentor, and entrepreneur, with 20 years of sector experience in cleantech and ocean technology companies. Adam has helped to start more than 20 companies in the cleantech space including one that for its time built the largest wind farm in Europe (600 MW), and Hungary’s first private wastewater treatment company and Romania’s first private gas to the home company. Currently, Adam as an Angel Investor is a Partner in the Blue Angels investment group (ocean technology), an affiliate member of Launchpad Ventures, and an Emeritus Partner of the Clean Energy Venture Group. Adam was an Advisor to the Propeller VC fund (ocean tech). Adam mentors and judges at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Ocean Impact Organization, and MassChallenge. Adam is married to Kristina Gjerde, who was a WHOI Marine Policy Fellow.

J. Kendall Huber

J. Kendall Huber

Jay Huber retired in April 2020 after serving 20 years as executive vice president and general counsel of The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., a NYSE-listed property and casualty insurance company headquartered in Worcester, MA. Prior to that, he served in senior legal positions with several other public corporations, including USF&G Corporation and Legg Mason in Baltimore, MD and Promus Hotel Corporation in Memphis, TN. He previously was in the Corporate and Securities Practice Group of the Baltimore, MD law firm of Piper & Marbury, now the international firm known as DLA Piper. After completing his BA in Economics and Political Science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his law degree at the University of Virginia, he began his legal career as a JAG officer with the U.S. Navy, stationed in Annapolis, MD and Sigonella, Sicily. In the course of his career, Jay has been on the boards of several non-profit organizations and remains active with such organizations on Cape Cod. He enjoys swimming, biking, and traveling with his wife, Debbie Clarke. He now resides in West Falmouth, MA.

Loral O'Hara

Loral O'Hara

Loral O’Hara is a NASA Astronaut and former WHOI Research Engineer. She was selected to join the Astronaut Corp in 2017 and recently spent 204 days in space living and working onboard the International Space Station, where she and her crewmates completed over 250 different scientific experiments, one spacewalk, and numerous cargo vehicle operations as part of Expedition 69/70. Prior to NASA, she spent eight years working at WHOI on the engineering and operations of underwater vehicles, including the human-occupied research submersible Alvin and the remotely operated vehicle Jason. O’Hara holds a master’s degree from Purdue University in Aeronautics and Astronautics and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in Aerospace Engineering. She is passionate about exploration and conservation and enjoys traveling and spending time on the water and in the backcountry.

Michael Schor

Michael Schor

Michael Schor is a Managing Director on the Bain Capital Partnership Strategies team, where he leads the group’s environmental markets investment efforts including in voluntary carbon market opportunities. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Schor worked for more than a decade in public equity investing, most recently as an Analyst at Darsana Capital. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Associate for SPO Partners and as an Analyst for the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Morgan Stanley. He received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where he received an AB in Economics and a Minor in Government.
