Leah McRaven and Evie Fachon are craned onto multi-year ice via a personnel basket to deploy an SVP drifter. SVP drifters are deployed from ships of opportunity by the International Buoy Program and are used to track sea ice motion in remote Arctic regions. This deployment took place near the Mackenzie River outflow into the Beaufort Sea near Northwest Territories, Canada.
