MIT/WHOI Joint Program students Brynn Hamilton (PO), Amelia Macapia (Biology) and Margaret Gregory (PO) on a nature walk around Penikese Island. The bamboo poles are used to deter birds from swooping on their heads, a necessary precaution since Penikese is a bird sanctuary where over 3,000 pairs nest annually.
