Virginia A. (Hegarty) Lefavor

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Virginia A. (Hegarty) Lefavor on October 20.  She was 75.

Ginny was born and raised in Weymouth, Mass.  She married her high school sweetheart Walter R. Lefavor, and traveled the world with him as a military wife.  Walter retired in 1977 and they moved to Cape Cod. 

Ginny began her career at WHOI in 1977 as an accountant I.  In 1980, she was promoted to accountant II.  In 1982, she was promoted to financial analyst/auditor. In 1983, she was promoted to accounting operations manager.  She retired in 1993 but continued working on a casual basis until 1997. 

Ginny enjoyed painting with oils and more recently with watercolors, but her focus in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was married to Walter for 56 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons and their spouses Joseph and Jane Lefavor of Annapolis, Md; James and Anne Lefavor of Fairbanks, AK; and Richard and Jana Lefavor of Sandwich, Mass; her grandchildren, Matthew of Nashville, Tenn, Laura of Annapolis, Md, Nicholas of Annapolis, Md, Jason and Andrew, both of Sandwich, Mass; and her brother, Richard Hegarty and Mary Snethen, both of Norwell, Mass. 

Visiting hours will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Friday, October 25, at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills, Mass, 02649.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 26, at Christ the King Church, Jobs Fishing Road, Mashpee, Mass, followed by burial at a local cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, N.Y., 13220-3049.
