Arthur Costa

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Arthur Costa on January 18, in Falmouth.  He was 80.

Arthur was born in Fall River, MA.  He was the son of Manuel and Margarida (Almeida) Costa.

Arthur was hired as a security guard in 1983 and retired in 1998.  Prior to working at WHOI, he was a retired Chief Master Sgt. in the U. S. Air Force

While in the Air Force, he lived in Michigan, New York State, Otis AFB MA, Virginia, and Germany. He had two tours of duty in Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Marquette, MI; Falmouth Elks; and Sandwich VFW.

He was the loving husband of Jeannine (Jacquemet) Costa whom he married in Reims, France, in 1960. They raised three children: John, Marc, and Monique, and leaves four grandchildren and two great grandsons.

A family wake will be held at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth Center, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday January 23, at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway, East Falmouth. Private interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
