School Vacation Week Activities in Woods Hole

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and the Woods Hole Film Festival present Fun & Films for Families, free films and activities during April school vacation week, Monday, April 17, through Thursday, April 20, 2017.  The events include family-friendly film screenings in Redfield Auditorium, 45 Water Street, Woods Hole, and hands-on activities at talks in WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center, 15 School Street, Woods Hole.

Monday, April 17
  • 11 a.m. -- the animated film “Song of the Sea.” Based on the Irish legend of the Selkies, Song of the Sea tells the story of the last seal-child, Saoirse, and her brother Ben, who go on an epic journey.

  • 12:45 p.m. -- a conversation about seal research with biologist Andrea Bogomolni in WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center

  • 1 - 3 p.m. -- “Splash Lab” hands-on activities at WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center

Tuesday, April 18
  • 11 a.m. -- the “Wild Kratts Deep Sea Adventure,” featuring a segment filmed in Woods Hole on the R/V Atlantis with Human Occupied Vehicle Alvin and in WHOI biologist Tim Shank’s lab.  

  • 12 p.m. Alvin pilot Bruce Strickrott will talk in WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center about adventures using Alvin.

  • 1 - 3 p.m. -- “Splash Lab” hands-on activities at WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center

Wednesday, April 19
  • 11 a.m. --  “The Boat Builder” starring Christopher Lloyd. A bitter old hermit reluctantly agrees to help a young orphan avoid the local bullies so long as he agrees to help him finish his half-built boat.The film is for audiences age 12 and up.

  • 1 - 3 p.m. -- “Splash Lab” hands-on activities at WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center

Thursday, April 20

11 a.m. --  “Story Time” with Hovey Clifford reading “A Fish Out of Water”  at WHOI’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center
