Neil Armstrong Takes New York

May 22, 2017

The research vessel Neil Armstrong, shown here working off the North Carolina coast on the Processes driving Exchange at Cape Hatteras (PEACH) project, will participate in Fleet Week in New York City this week—the first time in recent memory that a research vessel will participate in the event. The 238-foot Neil Armstrong is owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by WHOI. It will participate in the Navy’s Parade of Ships on Wednesday, May 24, and will be berthed at Pier 86 near the Intrepid Sea Air and Space museum. Public tours will be available on Thursday, May 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Friday, May 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.(Photo courtesy of John McCord, UNC Coastal Studies Institute)
