Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is world-renowned for its research and engineering, and specialized laboratories and facilities. The Business Development Office (formerly called the Office for Applied Oceanography) is a one stop shop for establishing collaborations with partners looking to sponsor research and engineering efforts. We can also work with you to offer the Institution's technologies for licensing or commercialization.

Government Sponsored Research
WHOI has a long standing tradition of working with government organizations, bridging its basic science and engineering to military and environmental applications, as well as other contexts.

Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer

Patents and Technologies
Companies may license technologies owned by WHOI in order to further develop or incorporate the technologies into products such as oceanographic exploration equipment, medical devices and advanced research materials.

WHOI researchers offer a variety of facilities & services for use by external groups and organizations.
