Photo Gallery: CT scanning
Computed tomography (CT) scans are used to investigate the internal structure and pathology of whale bone. Large whale jaw bones, particularly those of baleen whales, have not been thoroughly surveyed internally for the presence (or absence) of jaw fats that may serve a homologous acoustic function as reported in toothed whales and dolphins.
