PSI-326 Epoxy (Smart Glue)

Assistance provided by Ann Bodio, student technician.

Roughly equal masses of part A and part B of PSI-326 epoxy were mixed. The part A had become slightly hard and difficult to mix, but a mixture was attempted and it did harden in an exothermic reaction. Twelve scallops were brushed with a plastic brush to remove algal fouling. They were then blotted dry and a dab of PSI-326 was placed on each shell. The animal was then pressed into place on the netting. The scallops were left for 15 minutes in air on the benchtop while the epoxy set (hardened). The collection of 12 scallops attached to netting was then immersed in running seawater. None of the animals came loose.
