Dennis Normile
Dennis Normile studied civil engineering at Villanova University and briefly considered going on for graduate work in geology. Instead he ended up doing his best to counter the effects of earthquakes on buildings as a structural engineer working in Anchorage, Alaska. He has been the Japan correspondent for Science since 1995 and has followed the evolution of the IODP ever since it was first proposed at a meeting in Hayama, Japan, in 1996.
