Mission to the Bottom of the Sea

Mission to the Bottom of the Sea

November 15, 2011

The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Jason gives researchers eyes and hands in the ocean depths, allowing them to see, photograph, and collect samples miles below the surface. Join us November 28 as Dive and Discover travels to the Mediterranean Sea with Jason, R/V Atlantis, and a team of researchers led by WHOI biologist Ginny Edgcomb. The expedition will focus on the organisms living in super-salty brine lakes at the bottom of the sea, some of the most extreme environments on Earth. Jason will be used to collect sediments from the brine pools.(Photo by Dan Fornari, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
