Home for Christmas

On the morning of December 23, R/V Knorr tied up at the WHOI dock after an 11-day crossing from  Cape Verde. The ship left Woods Hole on November 6 on a cruise that was part of GEOTRACES, an international study of marine biogeochemical cycles and the factors governing the movement of trace elements through the ocean. After a brief maintenance period, Knorr will return to service in early 2012 with a full schedule that includes trips to support the Ocean Observatories Initiative and WHOI’s decade-long monitoring of the Gulf Stream and Deep Western Boundary Current along Line W.(Photo by Ken Kostel, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
