Falmouth High School held its annual “Career Day” on November 16. High school students interested in careers in oceanography visited WHOI’s Deep Submergence Lab (DSL), where Mario Fernandez taught them how to operate the manipulator arm for the hybrid remotely operated vehicle (HROV) Nereus. After they took turns on the manipulator arm, DSL Director Andy Bowen gave the students an exclusive tour of the vehicle, which is one of only two submersibles to reach Challenger Deep, the deepst spot in the ocean.
