Christine Mingione was actually in love with writing before she became a scientist, but an insatiable curiosity with the natural world (and a love of football) led her to the University of Notre Dame, where she pursued a degree in biology. Her undergraduate research had her climbing desert mountains in Arizona, wading through streams in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, and walking along rainforest canopies in Puerto Rico before she settled on graduate school on Cape Cod in the MIT/WHOI Joint Program. As a young scientist, she likes opportunities to reach out to the public, whether through organized activities with children in schools or informal talks with those she encounters while doing research. And she enjoys opportunies to combine her love for writing with her passion for science. When she is not spending all her days by the bay, she can probably be found running somewhere along the streets of Falmouth, a pastime she has been competitive in since she was seven.
