June 8, 2007

Ensign Greg Dietzen a student in the MIT/WHOI graduate program and a U.S. Navy officer was named this week as the 2007 recipient of the Rear Admiral Richard Pittenger Fellowship. He is working and studying in the WHOI Department of Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering. Together with his advisors, acoustics scientists Tim Stanton and Andone Lavery, Dietzen is building a theoretical model of how shells and similar seafloor items (such as the sand-dollar he is holding) scatter sound waves.
