Fakenham School & College

Fakenham High School and College is a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school of about 1300 students. In the High School, there are between 5 and 8 forms in each of Years 7 to 11 and about 300 students in the College, which consists of Years 12 and 13. The school serves a very large catchment area of North Norfolk, with about half of all students coming from outside Fakenham.

We are proud of our academic achievements. We are an Investor in People and hold both the Sportsmark and Artsmark awards. We achieved Green Flag status as an Eco-School in 2009. We took on Specialist Technology School status in 2000 and set up the Rural Norfolk Federation in 2003. Since 2006 we have held a second specialism for Applied Learning and we were one of the first schools nationally to offer the new diplomas in our separate centre in the town.

All High School students are taught for 25 hours a week. Students in Year 7 study a broad curriculum which includes English, mathematics, science, technology, ICT (information and communications technology), geography, history, religious education, a modern foreign language, PE (physical education), art, music and drama. In Year 8 there is an opportunity to study a second modern foreign language. In the spring term of Year 9 students choose the subjects they wish to take at Key Stage 4. At Key Stage 4 our emphasis remains upon a broad and balanced curriculum. Courses are designed to meet the needs and interests of individual students. All students continue to study English, mathematics, science and technology to GCSE level. A wide choice of optional subjects is on offer but all students must also study courses leading to examinations in ICT and continue to take PE. For all students a more vocational path is available which may involve arrangements with local colleges.
