Blazing Sunsets

Sunsets come earlier with every passing day this time of year, but the trade-off is that they are often quite beautiful. A recent, blazing sunset framed WHOI’s research vessel Atlantis at the Iselin Marine Facility as the ship was being loaded with supplies for a research cruise to the North Atlantic. The expedition’s goals are to investigate the links between biogenic aerosols (fine particles or liquid droplets made by organisms and suspended in the atmosphere) and other factors that affect the largest annual bloom of plankton in the global ocean.(Photo by Eric Benway, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
