Ocean Observatories InitiativeOcean Observatories Initiative
In 2009, staff from WHOI's Physical Oceanography and Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering departments began work on the National Science Foundation’s (NSF's) new Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). The project is intended to provide cutting-edge ocean observing infrastructure for the community.

Through a research agreement with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, WHOI scientists are studying coral reef ecosystems, fisheries, and water circulation along Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast.
