Create a template
Exercise: Create a template from your basic design web page.
- Open the file you just created in Exercise 1 in Dreamweaver
- choose File --> Save As Template
- type a name for the new template (eg. classTemplate) and
click Save
Dreamweaver will save the page in the Templates folder of
your local site root folder; the extension of .dwt will be
added to the file to indicate that it is a Dreamweaver template
- Add an editable region to your template
Once you have saved the file as a template, you must define the
areas of the template which are locked and which are editable.
By default, all areas are locked. To add an editable region to
the template:
- select the part of the page you want to be able to change
- in this case, the table data cell in the bottom right of the
window (use the tag selector)
- choose Modify --> Templates --> New Editable Region
or
Right-click (Control-click) the selection and choose New Editable
Region from the contextual menu
- enter a name for the region and click OK
the name for the region appears in a small blue tab above the
editable region
- Save and close the template file
To Remove an editable region:
- select Modify --> Templates --> Remove Editable Region
- choose the region that you wish to remove from the list and
click OK
