Apply template to page

You can use Dreamweaver templates to apply structure to pages that are already written, as long as that page isn't already based on a template.

Exercise: Apply a template to a content page

  1. choose File --> Open to open the file contentpage.html that you copied in Exercise 1
  2. choose Modify --> Templates --> Apply Template to Page
  3. click a template in the Select Templates dialog box (classTemplate) and click Select
  4. select the editable region of the template into which you want the contents of the page to be placed (content).
  5. choose File --> Save As and name the file Research.html in your ClassNN folder.

Note: Since you can only select a single editable region, if several content regions are in the original, Dreamweaver merges them all into a single editable region.

Beware: Since the <head> region of a template is locked, Dreamweaver will replace any style sheets, JavaScript and meta tags that are in the current document with those from the template.
