Quote of the Day:
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it), but "That's funny ... "

Graduate Research Opportunity:

Graduate Research Assistant
School for Marine Science and Technology
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

The School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a Ph.D. track Graduate Research Assistant to assist with laboratory studies of horizontal dispersion by eddies resulting from patchy mixing. The successful applicant will be responsible for setting up, conducting, and analyzing data from laboratory experiments. The actual laboratory work will be conducted at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) Geophysical Fluid Dynamics rotating tank facility. A bachelors or masters degree in oceanography, physics, computer sciences, applied mathematics or related field is required. Applicants should have strong mathematical and computer skills and some background in physical and/or earth sciences. Experience in a laboratory setting is advantageous, but not required. Concurrent enrollment in the University of Massachusetts Intercampus Graduate School of Marine Sciences and Technology (IGS) with a concentration in Marine and Atmospheric Systems Modeling and Analysis beginning Fall 2004 is expected. For more information visit our websites: http://www.smast.umassd.edu and http://www.umassmarine.net . Assistantship includes a generous stipend plus tuition waiver. Review of applications will be ongoing during Spring, 2004, and will continue until the position is filled. To apply, send a statement of interest, current resume, and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of three references to:
