A Visit from the CNO

Admiral John Richardson, the U.S. Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations, visited WHOI in September, 2016, and received a number of briefings on research, technology, and assets sponsored by the Navy, including WHOI’s research vessels and autonomous underwater vehicles such as Sentry and REMUS. Here he received briefings on ocean gliders from WHOI scientist Robert Todd (rear center) and on new ALAMO floats to study hurricanes from WHOI scientist Steven Jayne (front right). WHOI’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees David Scully (rear right) joined the tour. This wasn’t Richardson’s first visit to WHOI—he earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering in the WHOI-MIT Joint Program in Oceanography.
