Piecing Together Titanic

Piecing Together Titanic

September 15, 2010

This mosaic of the RMS Titanic on the seafloor 2.5 miles below the surface was assembled in 1987 using nearly 100 of the 53,000 images taken by the towed sled ANGUS in 1985. It took aproximately 700 hours to complete. New technology now makes it possible to build mosaics at sea in much less time. A new expedition to the site of the Titanic is also working to complete the most extensive survey of the wreck and debris field to date.
