After launch, REMUS cruises 2 or 3 meters (6.5 to 9.8 feet) above the seafloor during a  typical mission. It is capable of conducting an 80 kilometer (50 mile) survey while moving at a speed of 3 knots (that's about 5.4 kilometers, or 3.3 miles, per hour). (Oceanographic Systems Laboratory, WHOI)
