In October 2011 the Center for Vision Loss, an agency serving visually impaired people of eastern Pennsylvania, awarded their first-ever “Chrysalis Award” to WHOI scientist Amy Bower. The award , which honors “a blind or visually impaired person who has transformed the world around them,” and was given to Amy to recognizer her achievements in oceanography and outreach. Though a rare October snowstorm forced cancellation of last fall’s award ceremony, CVL Executive Director Doug Yingling came to WHOI on September 17, 2012, and presented Amy with the award at a small event sponsored by the office of WHOI’s Director of Research.
