A Fine Touch

Technician Jefferson Grau daubs blue dye around the inside of holes on a viewport mounting rim that will be part of the newly rebuilt Alvin submarine. The dye will allow him to tell whether the rim seats properly when it is placed on titanium pegs welded to the sub’s personnel sphere. If any dye transfers to the welds, the welds are too large and may be interfering with the proper alignment of the rim.
