Leaping Polar Bears!

Leaping Polar Bears!

May 3, 2014

WHOI researcher Chris Linder photographed this polar bear during an expedition in the summer of 2007. Later that year, a research team including WHOI scientist Hal Caswell concluded that melting Arctic sea ice is threatening polar bears’ survival. In 2008, polar bears became the first vertebrate species listed by the U.S. Endangered Species Act as threatened by extinction primarily because of climate change. Linder, Caswell, and other researchers will participate in a free public forum, From Penguins to Polar Bears: The Impacts of Climate Change, tomorrow from 6:30 to 8 p.m. An accompanying exhibit of photographs and watercolors will be held at Woods Hole Community Hall.(Photo by Chris Linder, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
