What makes a tidal flat tick?

That’s exactly what WHOI researchers are working to find out with the Skagit Tidal Flats Experiment. Instrument tripods deployed in Skagit Bay are being used to determine the importance of tides, river discharge, winds, and waves to the water movement on the flats. The results of the study will be useful to understanding movement of sediments & pollution, and evolution of marshes and channels, which provide critical habitat for juvenile salmon.
