Chilly conditions in Woods Hole in early 2015 provided ideal conditions for engineer Ken Decoteau to do engineering runs of a Slocum glider in advance of its deployment in the Arctic. The glider is equipped with a thruster—a new feature that required testing—as well as a specialized instrument to measure turbulence. (Photo by Sean P. Whelan, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
