Special Guest

A very special guest visited the research vessel Atlantis during a port call in San Diego in December. Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientist Walter Munk (seated) received a personal tour of the human-occupied vehicle Alvin from WHOI geologist Dan Fornari. Munk’s career spans eight decades, and includes fundamental work on ocean currents, tides, deep-ocean mixing, wind, waves, tsunamis, seismic waves, and the rotation of the Earth. (Photo by Autumn K.
