‘Jedi’ at sea

R/V Atlantis third mate Rick Bean oversees the firing of expired flares by researcher Wenlu Zhu, of the Geology & Geophysics department, during Atlantis’ 2009 New Years Eve commemorations. The flare was fired in a remote part of the ocean after calls were made to alert other ships in the area that it was a drill and not an actual emergency.
