Chief Scientists
WHOI chemist Elizabeth Kujawinski, shown at left recovering a CTD rosette to the deck of R/V Thomas G. Thompson, departed Montevideo, Uruguay, aboard R/V Knorr on March 25, her first trip as chief scientist on a research cruise. Kujawinski will spend six weeks at sea working with collaborators on a project to connect physical, chemical, and biological processes of the upper and deep ocean in the tropical Atlantic. Like the many female chief scientists before her, going to sea also means balancing those responsibilities with her role as a spouse and mother.
