Tagging Tuna
December 18, 2006Researchers and fishermen examine a catch of tuna as it is loaded onto the WHOI dock from the R/V Crawford in November 1960. WHOI scientist Frank Mather started the game-fish tagging program in 1954 and ran it for 20 years before it became a cooperative effort with the National Marine Fisheries Service. Tags are still returned from time to time today. (Photo courtesy of the Archives, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
