Summer Homework
September 30, 2015WHOI summer guest students Gabriel Roy Liguori and Fiona Hopewell assisted in a test deployment of a new instrument designed to make measurements of photosynthesis and respiration, the basic currency of energy exchange in all marine ecosystems, as it occurs in the ocean. Gabe, a rising senior at Yale University, and Fiona, a student a Falmouth High School, spent the summer testing the PHORCYS, or PHOtosynthesis and Respiration Carbon-balance Yielding System, in the test well on the Iselin marine facility in Woods Hole. Both were guest students in the laboratory of WHOI chemist Ben Van Mooy. (Photo by Jamie Collins, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
