Steady As She GoesApril 6, 2016
Able-bodied seaman Scott Loweth steered WHOI’s new research vessel R/V Neil Armstrong through the approach to San Francisco Harbor in November 2015 to complete the first leg of the ship’s inaugural voyage. WHOI has operated a long line of ships dating back to 1930 and Atlantis, the first ship built solely for oceanographic research. Today, Neil Armstrong arrives in Woods Hole for the first time, beginning what will likely be a decades-long career of supporting ocean science in the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Watch the arrival live online beginning at 9:45 a.m. and join the celebration on social media. (Photo by Ken Kostel, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
