Securing the Tower
March 26, 2018Raymond Graham and Ben Pietro of WHOI’s Upper Ocean Processes Group work to secure instruments atop a mooring buoy in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. The mooring is one of several that took measurements for NASA’s Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study 2 (SPURS-2), a multi-institution collaboration to study the effects of rainfall on the salinity and physics of water in the surface ocean. The meteorological tower on this mooring supported instruments to measure air pressure, temperature, humidity, solar radiation, longwave radiation, rainfall, and wind speed and direction.
