Preparing for Recovery
April 1, 2018Raymond Graham (right, in lifeboat) gets into position to join Ben Pietro (far right) on the surface buoy of a scientific mooring to prepare it for recovery after its 14-month deployment in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. The two members of WHOI’s Upper Ocean Processes Group were participating in NASA’s Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study 2 (SPURS-2), a multi-institution project to study the effects of heavy rainfall on ocean mixing and circulation. The collaboration included the University of Connecticut, the University of Washington Applied Physics Laboratory, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, along with crew members from the Scripps research vessel Roger Revelle (left, and far left).
